A teenager sank Georgia in their European Championship debut.
Arda Güler, the 19-year-old from Real Madrid, screwed in the winning goal in the 3–1 victory with a dream finish in the rain in Dortmund.
Georgia is the European Championship's only debutant, and the nation's first championship has created a lot of football fever across the country.
But a promising European Championship debut ended in disappointment.
Turkey's Arda Güler screwed in the 2–1 goal after getting a dream hit in the 65th minute.
Then Kerem Aktürkoglu could also make it 3–1 in the seventh minute of added time when Georgia's goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardasjvili had sprinted up to act as a striker.
Turkey also dominated the match opening.
Mert Müldür got a dream hit with his right foot on the volley and set the stylish leading goal in the 25th minute.
Just two minutes later, the Turks thought they had made it 2–0, but Kenan Yildiz was in an offside position after a VAR check.
Then Georgia got into the match, and Georges Mikautadze became a historic championship goal scorer when the 23-year-old Metz striker equalised in the 32nd minute.
But that was it – even though Giorgi Kochorasjvili was just a post away from an equaliser shortly after Güler's 2–1 goal.
He also had a cannon opportunity in added time but shot wide.
The Czech Republic and Portugal are the other two teams in the group.
