The 15-year-old boy who is suspected of having tried to assassinate the presidential candidate Miguel Uribe in Colombia denies the allegations, according to the prosecutor.

The teenager has been formally charged with attempted murder of the conservative candidate who was shot twice in the head and once in the leg when he spoke in a park in Colombia's capital Bogotá on Saturday.

Photos from the scene show Uribe speaking to supporters when a youth rushes towards him and fires at least eight shots.

The police suspect that the boy is a "sicario", an assassin, who received money to carry out the crime. As a minor, he risks eight years in prison if convicted.

On Tuesday, the hospital where Uribe is being treated states that he continues to be treated on the intensive care unit and that his condition is critical.
