"The victim has died of his injuries," says Helena Boström Thomas, press spokesperson for the police, to TT.
The victim is a teenage boy aged 17-18, according to police. Next of kin have been notified and the police investigation into the murder is ongoing.
"The preliminary investigation is in an intensive stage, including interrogations and technical examinations," the Swedish Prosecution Authority writes in a press release.
The police received several calls about gunshots at Vårbyparken's football field just before 5 pm on Monday.
No one has been arrested for the murder.
