The Republican senator Ted Cruz condemns the threats from the USA's communications authority (FCC) to withdraw ABC's broadcasting license after Jimmy Kimmel's statements about Charlie Kirk, reports several American media.

It is in his podcast "Verdict with Ted Cruz" that the Texas senator calls the FCC chairman Bredan Carr's threat "unbelievably dangerous" and compares his rhetoric with "mafia-like" tactics.

I hate what Jimmy Kimmel said. I am very happy that he got fired. But let me tell you: if the government gets in and says "We do not like what you, the media, have said. We will shut you off the air if you do not say what we want" it will end badly for conservatives, says Cruz in the episode.

If the Democrats retake power in the White House, such a development would backfire on Republicans, claims the senator.

They will use this power, and they will do it ruthlessly. And it is dangerous.

Disney-owned ABC announced on Wednesday that the program "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" would be stopped after the host's statement about murdered Charlie Kirk. Trump wrote on social media that it was "good news for the USA".

President Donald Trump has defended Carr's statement and said during a press conference on Friday that he "does not agree with Ted Cruz".
