The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.3 percent, the broad S&P 500 index rose 0.6 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.8 percent.
Among the winners was Nvidia, which jumped 1.6 percent after Meta announced earlier on Wednesday that it would use several million of the semiconductor giant's chips in its data center expansion.
There were also happy faces at Amazon, with the cloud giant ending up 1.8 percent, and Microsoft up 0.7 percent.
On the commodity side, fuel oil rose just over 4 percent and now costs $70.50 per barrel.
Investors spent the final hours of Wednesday's trading session analyzing the latest minutes from the Federal Reserve, which showed that senior officials at the central bank had differing opinions about interest rate developments.
