The blue-yellow quartet – in addition to Hasselborg, Sara McManus, Agnes Knochenhauer and Sofia Scharback – scored a three in the fourth end and went up 4–1.
Then they never let go of the lead in the Olympic debut, and with the score at 8–4 the Japanese conceded before the final end.
Super happy. We've talked a lot about how we're going to go into this first match and we're doing exactly what we talked about, Hasselborg said in the victory interview.
The next match is tonight at 7:05 p.m., when the Swedes face the USA.
Team Anna Hasselborg won Olympic gold in Pyeongchang 2018 and Olympic bronze most recently in Beijing.
