In May last year, Andrew and Tristan Tate, who are both British and American citizens, were charged in the UK with 21 counts, including rape, human trafficking and assault. The alleged crimes occurred between July 2010 and August 2017, according to prosecutors.
The brothers' lawyer denies the charges and says they are innocent.
"We are confident that as soon as a competent judge has access to the information, and as soon as the Department of Justice is confronted with this gross abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will be released," attorney Joseph McBride wrote in a statement.
Andrew and Tristan Tate have also been investigated for crimes in Romania, where they previously resided. In 2022, they were arrested there on suspicion of rape, trafficking in minors, money laundering and human trafficking and placed under house arrest. They denied the charges and the charges were later dropped due to legal and procedural irregularities, according to the AP.
Over the years, the Tate brothers have amassed a huge following, primarily of young men and boys. On social media, they have alternated posts showcasing their luxurious lifestyle with others sharing controversial views, not least those containing misogyny.
