The battery manufacturer Northvolt and the Portuguese energy company Galp announced in 2021 that they would jointly build a lithium refinery in Portugal.
Production was intended to be underway by 2026 – but now it appears to be delayed, reports Dagen industri with reference to the site Sifted.
The facility has been delayed by two years according to documents from the European Investment Bank (EIB) from March, which Sifted has accessed. The EIB is to consider financing of 825 million euros, among other things.
Galp states to the site that financing is not secured and that it has led to the delays.
Northvolt has not commented on the information.
