The Swedish jumper Tara Babulfath aimed for a medal when the World Championship in judo was decided in Budapest. She entered the second round in the 48-kilo class and had no problems winning over the South Korean Kyeongha Lee in her first match.
Then an eighth final against the German Sara Ischt was waiting. Also here Babulfath impressed and could advance to the quarterfinals.
There, the Spaniard Laura Martinez Abelenda was the opponent, an opponent that turned out to be too much for Babulfath.
Babulfath could have competed for bronze, if she beat the Japanese Wakana Koga in a rematch for a bronze match. But there Babulfath's dreams of a World Championship medal were crushed.
Instead, it was the Italian Assunta Scutto who took home the World Championship gold. The 23-year-old won the final against the 27-year-old Abiba Abuzhakynova from Kazakhstan.
Only a year ago, Tara Babulfath got her big international breakthrough when she, as an 18-year-old, took a sensational World Championship bronze. Just months later, she wrote herself into the history books as the first Swede to take an Olympic Games medal in judo.
