The incident occurred about 30 kilometers north of Doha. The ship was hit by a cruise missile, causing damage, according to Qatar's Ministry of Defense. None of the crew were injured. Two other missiles heading towards the ship were shot down.
The ship was leased by Qatar's state energy company. Iran, according to Iranian state-controlled television, explained the attack by saying that the ship, Aqua 1, is owned by the Israeli "Zionist regime."
The attack is not expected to have had any environmental impact.
