Rosengård secured the SM gold as early as October 4 - despite four rounds remaining in the women's top division.
The rest of the season would mostly be about whether the Malmö club would achieve a perfect season with 26 out of 26 possible wins.
"Damn frustrating"
The streak stopped at 23 consecutive matches without a single point loss. When third-placed Hammarby visited Malmö IP, the Stockholm team won 3-2.
It feels damn frustrating, but we're up against a really good team. Today, it's the small things that decide, says Rosengård's Emma Jansson, who was recruited from Hammarby ahead of the 2023 season, to Viaplay.
Admittedly, Japanese Mai Kadowaki gave Rosengård the lead as early as the fourth minute. Norwegian Cathinka Tandberg equalized shortly after on a penalty, but Olivia Schough put Rosengård back in the lead with her 2-1 goal.
However, Hammarby forward Tandberg was far from done for the day.
Six minutes into the second half, the Norwegian headed in the 2-2 goal on a corner, and with just over ten minutes left to play regular time, Tandberg scored the 3-2 goal.
A goal that proved decisive, and Rosengård's first women's top division loss for the season was a fact.
"Incredible team effort"
An incredible team effort. Even if I score three goals, we work for each other, says Tandberg to Viaplay.
An impressive performance by Hammarby - earlier in the week, the Stockholm team lost 0-9 away to Barcelona in the Champions League.
We bounce back after the "Barça" match. We show character and show that we're an incredibly good team, says Cathinka Tandberg.
