Tamworth, placed 16th in the National League – the English club football's fifth division – sensationally managed to reach 0–0 after regular 90 minutes.
But eleven minutes into extra time, Nathan Tshikuna became the match's unlucky guy at home on The Lamb Ground.
His own goal ensured that Tottenham – with Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski as substitutes – managed to escape and advanced to the fourth round.
Kulusevski, who came on the pitch just in time for extra time, beautifully scored 2–0 in the beginning of the second extra quarter.
Isak was missing
Newcastle beat Bromley at home with 3–1 but missed Alexander Isak in the squad.
The national team star probably rested due to the injury feeling in his thigh that made him leave already after an hour in the 2–0 win against Arsenal in the league cup semifinal earlier in the week.
Manchester United were drawn against the most successful cup winners Arsenal at Emirates. Despite being one man down for an hour, United held on – and were then most skilled in the penalty shootout.
Bruno Fernandes scored the leading goal in the beginning of the second half, but United soon got Diogo Dalot sent off. Arsenal took advantage of this immediately and central defender Gabriel equalized.
Took penalties
Martin Ødegaard then missed a doubtfully awarded penalty for Arsenal. Or... it was rather Altay Bayindir who saved it.
United put in all their five penalties after the goalless extra time, while Kai Havertz missed for Arsenal.
For a form-weak Arsenal, the setbacks come quickly now. Striker Gabriel Jesus was carried out on a stretcher and the offensive capacity decreased further. Previously, among others, English national team star Bukayo Saka has been out for a longer period.
Usually red-and-white-colored Arsenal chose to play in all-white jerseys, as part of the club's campaign "No More Red" to counter knife crime and youth crime.
