The Taliban regime in Afghanistan expresses a desire to normalize the relationship with the USA.

The message was conveyed after a meeting in Kabul with the US special envoy for hostage response about a prisoner exchange between the countries.

The envoy Adam Boehler "said that both countries will exchange prisoners", according to a statement from the country's vice foreign minister.

Washington has not commented on the visit, which is described as unusual.

Since the Taliban regained power in the country in connection with the US withdrawal in 2021, several foreign citizens have been held captive by the regime. At least one American is currently imprisoned in the country.

Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi says in a statement that he hopes the relationship with other countries, including the US, can "return to normal" and that "there are no problems with other countries that cannot be solved".
