The incident occurred on Thursday evening when those who were later arrested had gathered in a residential building where they played musical instruments and sang songs together. Something that is not allowed under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
After their takeover, the Taliban have closed music schools, smashed or burned music systems and sound equipment, citing that music causes "moral corruption" and disturbs the public.
Wedding halls are no longer allowed to play music, even though segregated women's sections often do so in secret.
The Taliban authorities have previously encouraged musicians to devote themselves to Islamic poetry and unaccompanied singing – the only music forms that were allowed during their previous rule from 1996-2001.
