Pakistan denies it attacked the hospital, saying it did not hit any civilian targets. Government officials said the airstrikes were directed at military installations and "terrorist targets."
Hamdullah Fitrat said on X that rescue workers were trying to bring the fire under control in the building and retrieve the bodies of the victims. Footage posted on X by local TV channels showed security forces using flashlights as they carried victims out.
The hospital is focused on rehabilitation for people with drug addiction. Officials previously said around 3,000 patients had been treated there.
On Friday, Pakistan attacked Kabul, resulting in several casualties.
Neighboring Pakistan and Afghanistan have clashed in a series of exchanges, and in February Afghanistan launched a border offensive in retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes.
