The speedway star Tai Woffinden is awake and speaks out for the first time since the nasty accident in Poland.

"I'm on the road to recovery, but please have a little patience with me", writes the 34-year-old on Instagram.

It was at the end of March that Woffinden crashed during a friendly match with his Polish team Stal Rzeszów, and was then taken to hospital by helicopter.

Woffinden, who in Sweden drives for Västervik, suffered chest injuries, several fractures that were operated on, and was then placed in a medical coma.

"I need a little more time to rest and gather my thoughts. I'll update you later in the week", writes Woffinden and continues:

"I appreciate all the love and support from around the world".
