Today, the Iraqi authorities begin to send home Syrian soldiers after consultation with relevant Syrian authorities on the matter, says spokesperson Miqdad Miri according to the news agency AFP.

In pace with the Islamist movement Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies approaching Damascus last week, hundreds of Syrian government soldiers fled across the border to Iraq. Some were injured, reports a source within the Iraqi security service.

Now the soldiers will be taken back the same way, announces the Ministry of the Interior.

Syria's new leadership has urged Assad regime's soldiers and police to lay down their arms and register with the new authorities after the takeover.
