Syrian government forces have entered the city of Hasakeh in northeastern Syria, which had previously been controlled by Kurdish forces, following a deal last week.

A convoy of government vehicles was seen passing a Kurdish roadblock on its way into the city on Monday, according to AFP.

The government in Damascus and the Kurdish-led SDF reached an agreement on Friday to "unify Syrian territory."

The agreement means that Kurdish forces will be incorporated into Syria's military. Kurdish soldiers will leave the front lines and only government security forces will be allowed into cities previously controlled by Kurds.

The agreement follows a ceasefire in January, after Syria's new central government carried out an offensive and advanced deep into the former Kurdish autonomous region in northeastern Syria.
