The meeting took place a few days after an Israeli attack on a military airport in northwestern Syria, an incident that has increased tensions between the two countries and also between Israel and Turkey.
Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Mossad chief Roman Gofman discussed issues such as establishing “a special operations department” in Jordan under American supervision, to prevent confrontations between the countries concerned.
Israel's attack on the Abu al-Duhur air base came shortly after a Turkish delegation had visited the site. According to Israel, Syria was on the verge of violating an agreement by giving Turkey access to the base.
