Syria's defense ministry has declared a ceasefire in Aleppo after days of military attacks on Kurdish-dominated areas of the city.

Just hours earlier, the country's military declared a curfew for six neighborhoods in Aleppo in northwestern Syria.

According to local authorities, the Kurdish-led SDF forces will be sent to the Kurdish region in northeastern Syria on Friday. However, the forces themselves contradicted this:

"We have decided to stay in our districts and defend them," said a statement from a district council in an affected Aleppo district where the SDF is active.

At least 21 people have been killed in clashes between the military and SDF forces in recent days. Local authorities have previously said that over 40,000 people have left Aleppo after calls for civilians to leave.

Both sides have accused each other of starting the fighting on Tuesday, which comes amid a stalemate in political negotiations between Syria's new government, which came to power after the fall of dictator Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, and the SDF forces.
