Syria will conclude several agreements with Israel before the year is over. Among other things, it's about getting an end to Israel's attacks in Syria, according to a source at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, the country's Foreign Minister has arrived in Washington for an official visit.

Several agreements between Syria and Israel will be reached in 2025, according to information from an anonymous departmental official.

Progress is being made in the talks with Israel.

First and foremost, this would be security agreements and military agreements, he says, and adds that the focus is on "an agreement to stop (Israeli) military operations in Syria".

Syrian minister in the USA

On Thursday, Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani has arrived for an official visit to Washington, according to reports on state television. The visit will be the first of its kind in over 25 years and is intended, according to reports, to discuss the US's remaining sanctions against Syria.

Most recently, a Syrian foreign minister was on an official visit to Washington was in 1999.

Most of the sanctions that the US had directed against former President Bashar al-Assad have already been removed, since he was overthrown last year.

Pressure from the USA

Syria is now ruled by Ahmed al-Sharaa, leader of the Islamist rebel group Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) who overthrew the former president.

The USA has pressed Syria and Israel to reach an agreement that would stop the hostilities between the countries, which on paper have been at war ever since Israel was formed after World War II.
