Syria's interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa states that the country is negotiating with Israel on an agreement that would mean Israel leaves the areas the country occupied in December.
In connection with the overthrow of Syria's previous government, Israel sent troops to the UN-monitored buffer zone on the Golan Heights, which has separated the two countries since 1973.
According to the interim president, the negotiations are about "restoring Israel to the situation before December 8".
