After a goalless, and at times weak, round-of-16 final, penalties had to decide the match.
There, the Swiss kept their nerve best and were able to secure Switzerland's biggest football success in 72 years. The last time Switzerland reached the quarter-finals of a World Cup was in 1954 on home soil.
Switzerland scored four of five penalties, while Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel made a really good save on Juan Hernandez's fourth penalty.
For Colombia, the World Cup finals ended in exactly the same way as in 2018. Then they got a return trip in the round of 16, also on penalties that time, against England.
In the quarter-finals, Switzerland will face reigning world champions Argentina.
