"I was in a very personal crisis because I did not want to be vaccinated. At the same time, I did not want to let my team down at the Olympics," Patrick Fischer said in a statement.
His admission comes after the television company SRF confronted Fischer with documents showing that he was fined the equivalent of approximately 450,000 kronor in 2023 for document forgery after purchasing the COVID certificate on social media.
Fischer could have participated in the Beijing Olympics without vaccination - if he had been quarantined for three weeks before the games.
The Swiss Ice Hockey Association is not proceeding with the case as Fischer will retire after this year's World Cup, which will be held in Switzerland.
