Six of the dead were Italian citizens. For this reason, a separate Italian investigation has been opened in parallel with the Swiss one. The man who ran the bar Le Constellation with his wife has been notified that he is suspected in the Italian investigation of crimes, including several counts of manslaughter and arson.
A total of nine people are suspects in the Swiss investigation, including the mayor of Crans-Montana.
The fire, which also injured over 100 people, is believed to have been caused by burning ice torches placed in champagne bottles and held too close to the ceiling.
