Prison guards are said to have picked up Djalali on Monday. He is reported to have been allowed to pack his things.

Ahmadreza Djalali has been sentenced to death in Iran, after an arbitrary trial in which he was accused of spying for Israel.

These are terrible news. I do not know if they are moving him to execute him, or if they are going to do it to show strength. I do not know, says his wife Vida Mehrannia to TT.

Being moved from his department has historically meant a very high risk for the death row inmates to be executed. It is still unknown where he is being taken. In recent days, several political prisoners accused of having ties to Israel have been executed.

Israeli attack on the prison

On Monday morning, parts of Evin prison, where Djalali and many other political prisoners are imprisoned, were attacked by Israel. Djalali was then unharmed, his family announced, before they received news of the transport.

Human rights organizations have warned that Ahmadreza Djalali is at increased risk of being executed given the escalation between Israel and Iran.

MFA has been informed of the information

In a statement, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs writes that they have been informed of the information about the move.

”Sweden's embassy in Tehran is in contact with local authorities to clarify the circumstances. In light of this information, the government emphasizes the serious consequences it would have on relations with Iran if the sentence were to be carried out. The government reiterates the demand that Iran immediately release Ahmadreza Djalali for humanitarian reasons”.

It is still unclear whether the move is linked to Djalali being executed soon, or if the prison is transporting prisoners for other reasons related to the war.
