With only days left until the European Beach Volleyball Championships, Hölting Nilsson and Andersson, who are ranked number one in the world, suffered a heavy defeat in the Elite16 competition in Hamburg.
However, it started promisingly when they took the first set 21–18 against the home pair Nils Ehlers and Lui Wüst.
But the Germans came back, won two straight sets and the quarterfinals 18–21, 24–22, 15–10.
It was therefore a questionable statement of form from the Swedish world number ones ahead of the European Championships in Poland, which begin on August 12.
