The woman, who was in her 70s, was arrested with six kilograms of methamphetamine in mid-September at the international airport in the capital Manila.
In early December, the woman died while in custody. The circumstances surrounding her death are unknown.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms the death and says that relatives have been notified.
