A traffic inspector was killed in a collision with a truck while conducting a drive-through inspection. The Swedish Work Environment Authority is now criticizing the Swedish Transport Administration - and prosecutors have opened a preliminary investigation into suspected workplace safety violations.

"We will look into the circumstances more closely. It feels a bit strange that the Swedish Transport Administration is carrying out a drive-through despite urging people not to drive," prosecutor Katarina Folestad tells Arbetet.

A yellow warning for snowstorms had been issued at lunchtime on January 14. A few hours later, the inspector's car collided head-on with a truck in Södertälje.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority notes that the Swedish Transport Administration lacked written risk assessments for the work that inspectors perform in traffic, reports SVT Södertälje.

In the event of a red and orange warning, all driving tests must be cancelled. In the event of a yellow warning, a local assessment is required before driving.
