The stage has been both delayed and much more expensive. Now Trafikverket is terminating the contract with WLC, one of the contractors behind the West Link in Gothenburg. NCC, which is part of the consortium, blames the problems on Trafikverket.

West Link, including over six kilometers of railway tunnel under Gothenburg, has been hit by another setback.

After the Swedish Transport Administration reviewed the stage at Korsvägen and directed sharp criticism at WLC, which includes NCC, the contract with the consortium is now being terminated.

We are very disappointed, to say the least, damned, says Patrick Guné, head of Major Projects at the Swedish Transport Administration.

According to the authority, this is partly due to cost increases of almost 400 percent and that WLC has favored its own and related companies.

NCC, however, dismisses the criticism and believes that both the delays and cost increases are mainly the fault of the Swedish Transport Administration.

"With this attempt to hide their own shortcomings, the Swedish Transport Administration illustrates its inability to manage large partnership projects", says Kenneth Nilsson, business area manager at NCC Infrastructure, in a press release.

West Link is expected to be fully completed by 2030, according to the latest forecast.
