The speed is to be reduced on twelve railway sections to 80 kilometres per hour to reduce the risk of derailment due to sun curves.
"Currently, this only applies during parts of Thursday, but we are continuously monitoring the weather situation and the safety measures we are implementing can be changed quickly," says the Swedish Transport Administration's press communicator Peter Jonsson in a press release.
Asphalt roads are also affected. The heat increases the risk of “bleeding asphalt,” which means the road surface becomes slippery as binders soften, expand and rise to the surface in wet patches.
The Swedish Transport Administration provides sand when necessary but at the same time urges extra caution.
