The grocery trade's expectations for the future have brightened somewhat, while the consumer goods trade's expectations remain pessimistic, according to the Swedish Trade Barometer.

The increased confidence in the future is driven by an improved view of profitability in both the grocery and non-durable goods retail sectors, while the outlook for both sales and employment has lowered future expectations.

"The strengthening of the profitability assessment is positive, but uncertainty about the number of employees remains. Here we hope that political tools, such as the temporarily reduced employer contribution, can help strengthen confidence in the future," says Sofia Larsen, CEO of Swedish Commerce, in a press release.
