The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that Sweden's chargé d'affaires in Iran has been on a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran after being summoned there.
"It is true that Sweden's chargé d'affaires was summoned to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. We will not go into what was said during the meeting," writes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' press office in an email to TT.
According to the Iranian state news agency Irna, the Swedish diplomat was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after what is called false accusations against Iran by Swedish officials.
This follows Säpo and the police on Thursday confirming Israeli intelligence agency Mossad's information that criminal networks are acting as intermediaries when Iran wants to carry out violent actions against other states, groups, or individuals in Sweden.
Specifically, Israel and Jewish interests were mentioned.
The Swedish government reacted strongly to the information and Foreign Minister Tobias Billström stated in a comment to TT that Iran's ambassador in Sweden will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm on Friday.
Iran's embassy in Sweden has denied the information about connections to criminal networks and in a statement on the embassy's website called them "fake news".
