Calgary's Swedish team captain Mikael Backlund will be out of play for an indefinite period of time since he injured himself earlier in the week, writes NHL on its website.
His condition will be assessed on a weekly basis.
He does everything for us. He plays in all situations and is the team's leader. I've played with him for a long time, so now I have to make sure to quickly find the chemistry with some others, said teammate Blake Coleman, to reporters on Friday.
It was during the night against Thursday Swedish time that Backlund sustained an upper body injury in the loss match against Vancouver.
