In the first set, the players stayed neck and neck until the Swede pulled away at the end. In the second, Benjegård got full value from her serves and returns, surged ahead and won 11–6.
At that point, Siri Benjegård looked like the winner, but a poor start to the third set undid much of her good work.
In the fourth, the more experienced Anastasiya Dymytrenkoi took control and went on to win.
"She is a strong player and has a game that really suits me. I did what I could and am happy with a lot of my game," said Siri Benjegård.
Sweden's other championship debutant, 16-year-old Angelina Bebawy, also lost her debut, falling 2–3 in sets to Belgian Larissa Lewyckyj.
