90 percent of the tour's participants voted for the Swedes as the team of the year. Moreover, David Åhman was named the tour's most valuable player and best defensive player.
The voting was organized by the large American beach volleyball podcast Sandcast.
The Swedish beach volleyball team had a remarkably successful 2024. In addition to the highly publicized gold in Paris, the pair finished second in the World Championship finals in Doha and won four tournaments. In April, Åhman/Hellvig became Sweden's first world number one on the ranking.
More awards may follow. The duo is nominated in the category team of the year at the Sports Gala on January 20. Their coaches Rasmus Jonsson and Anders Kristiansson are included in the category coach of the year.
