On March 22, Sweden will play a friendly match against Luxembourg, as part of the preparation for the autumn's World Championship qualifiers. Then, many will probably hope that Borussia Dortmund's successful Swede, Daniel Svensson, is included in the squad.
But on Tuesday, the 23-year-old suffered a setback.
In the Champions League round of 16 against Lille, Svensson was forced to leave the pitch injured, after receiving a severe blow to the Achilles tendon. Afterwards, he lay down, and immediately clutched his knee as if he had twisted something.
After receiving medical attention on the pitch, his teammates signaled for a substitution, and so it was. Svensson was forced to hobble off, in visible pain and with the help of two doctors, in the 83rd minute.
The severity of the injury remains to be seen.
The match ended 1–1, the return match in French Lille will be played next Wednesday.
