The feeling when he realized the pole had broken?

It was visible on the TV images, if they caught it, says Max Novak to SVT with a crooked smile.

It's tough. It has had its moments this season, but I've also had my dark moments, he continues.

Novak was then part of a larger group, but at the same time as his pole broke, a tougher ride of the top skiers began with just over a mile left to ski of the 60-kilometer long race.

I get the pole knocked off just as the hill starts. It's the worst possible timing, says Max Novak.

Norwegian Ole Jørgen Bruvoll pulled away shortly after and was able to hold on for victory in both the season finale and the overall standings.

The best Swedish skier became Axel Jutterström, who finished fifth behind four Norwegians.

Before the season finale, which takes place between Bardufoss and Finnsnes, Max Novak was fifth in the overall standings.
