Axelina Johansson traveled directly from the Swedish Championship competitions in Uppsala this weekend to New York.
A proper tribute to the Swedish shot putter awaited her there.
"I don't think I realized how big this is. It's huge. I want to thank everyone who voted for me. Best female college athlete in the entire United States. Crazy," she tells SVT.
The award has been presented for 50 years and is awarded in several different sports, with athletics being one of them.
Johansson won the college championships in dominant style in June and earlier this year she improved the Swedish record to 19.97 meters.
