Swedish Shooters Miss World Championships in Qatar Over Security Concerns After Trump Threat

Three Swedish shooters who had qualified for the Olympics missed the World Championships in Qatar and a chance to secure Olympic qualifying spots. The reason? Uncertainty in the region.

Trump had threatened to launch more attacks in the area after the US midterm elections, skeet shooter Stefan Nilsson Schön tells Trelleborgs Allehanda.

Marcus Svensson and Henrik Jansson also stayed home, TA writes, mainly because they risked being stranded if flights were canceled.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not issued any travel advice, and several other Swedes are in Doha for the World Cup, TA writes.

But since I know that some countries did not come to Doha because of the unrest in the area, and that one country chose to withdraw from the competition midway through the championship, it will be a strange championship, Swedish Shooting Association sports director Therese Lundqvist tells Radiosporten.
