The shooting at The Washington Hilton hotel took place during an annual correspondents' dinner on Saturday evening local time.
At the dinner, among them SVT's U.S. correspondent Sofia Yohannes.
"We were here at the scene and were sitting at the table closest to the doors. We heard clear gunshots and everyone around us threw themselves under the tables," she tells SVT shortly after the incident.
Sveriges Radio's Washington correspondent Ginna Lindberg also says she and the other guests threw themselves under the tables to take cover.
"We threw ourselves under the tables, there was panic in the room. I dove down with the others," she tells Sveriges Radio's Ekot.
She says the program had just begun, Trump had entered the hall, and the guests had been served the appetizer when she heard at least four loud gunshots.
