The Energy Market Inspectorate (EI) has decided on new rules for how gas network companies may charge their customers, including households and businesses.
"EI’s assessment is that gas network companies as a whole have had high profit margins. Under the new method, the companies’ revenue caps will be lower," the authority writes in a press release.
Compared with the previous period, 2023–2026, the so-called revenue caps - the maximum amount companies are allowed to charge customers - will be reduced by 20 percent for the next four-year period.
But customers’ hopes of lower bills could be dashed. Companies will have to carry over unused revenue from the previous period.
It is therefore "not yet possible to fully see the effect of the gas network companies’ lower revenue caps for the coming four-year period," EI writes.
