The 27-year-old Swedish swimmer improved his own Swedish short course record by 1.6 seconds when he swam in 3.37.73 in the trials at the European Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland.
In the final it was slightly slower, 3.37.92.
I'm really happy. That I'm in this short course and can compete with these names. It gives me confidence for the 1,500 tomorrow.
Britain's Jack McMillan won in 3:36.33. Olympic gold medalist over the distance, German Lukas Märtens, came second (3:36.51) and Irishman Daniel Wiffen, the reigning European champion, came third (3:37.02).
