Kulturnytt is following in the footsteps of Aftonbladet, which began rating literature in 2024. Gota Media's newspapers followed suit in 2025.
Swedish media have traditionally not used rating systems for reviews of literature, theatre and art. But in autumn 2023, the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK introduced ratings. The initiative has meant that more readers, including younger ones, have started reading the reviews, according to NRK.
