Swedish professional cyclist Emilia Fahlin, 37, is retiring. She announced the decision in a post on Instagram.

"I've spent the last 19 years living my hobby full-time. And now the time has come to close that chapter and get off the bike," Fahlin writes.

The decision was based on health issues. Last fall, she was diagnosed with iliac artery endofibrosis, a narrowing of the arteries that limits blood flow to the legs and has affected her performance in recent years.

"It is both a relief to know the cause, but also a sadness not to have discovered it earlier," Fahlin writes further.

In 2008, Fahlin became the Swedish champion in the distance race. In 2009 and 2010, she won the Swedish Championship in the time trial.

She competed at the Olympics in London in 2012 and in Rio in 2016.
