The authority wants to be called the Swedish Data Protection Authority.
This is not the first time that the authority has changed its name. On January 1, 2021, the authority changed from the Swedish Data Protection Authority to its current name.
In its request to the government, IMY states that a name change is needed to reflect the authority's mission as a regulatory authority, which the current name does not. The current name also leads to recurring misunderstandings, according to the authority.
The name Data Protection Authority would also reduce the risk of confusion with other authorities, it is believed.
