In total, the government has decided on 1,818 new prison places.
"The continued expansion of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service is important to push back against serious and organized crime. Just over 1,800 new places correspond to over two Kumla prisons," says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer in a press release.
The facility in Trelleborg will be larger than previously announced, with 180 detention places and 540 prison places. The premises in Gothenburg will be established at Hisingen, according to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
