Olof Olsson has lived in Thailand for a total of nine years, in two separate periods, and says that it is precisely the fact that the rain has been so persistent this time that distinguishes it from previous rainy weather.
The rain here is always intense, but when it doesn't subside like it usually does, it becomes catastrophic, he says and continues:
It's extremely heavy this time.
Olof Olsson lives with his wife Marie in an apartment on the tenth floor in the Khlong Toei district in central Bangkok, which has not been as hard hit as other areas.
He says they are mainly affected by not being able to get around the city by car as before. Access to the internet has also come and gone.
"Now it has dried up a bit on the street below, an hour ago the water was up a decimeter. Then there is another downpour and then it rises again," he says.
Rain warnings have been sent to residents' cellphones, he says, and the Thais they've spoken to are both relieved and surprised by how much it's raining.
This naturally creates concern among the local population who do not live as well as we do, but in much worse houses and at ground level.
