The KD leader Ebba Busch writes on X that the government has contact with responsible authorities.

"I have now been reached by the terrible events in my hometown Uppsala", she writes.

The Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) states in a written statement to TT that "what has happened is extremely serious".

"The Ministry of Justice is in close contact with the police and is closely following the development of events", he writes.

The shooting is described as "shocking" by the Green Party's spokesperson Daniel Helldén.

"Violence must be removed from our streets. We are following the development closely and our thoughts are with those affected and the people of Uppsala tonight", he writes on X.

He receives support from the Social Democratic Party leader Magdalena Andersson: "The deadly violence that plagues our country must be stopped", she writes on X and describes the act as "appalling".

The V leader Nooshi Dadgostar also describes the reports of the shooting as "incredibly serious and shocking".

"Brutal violence on the open street in the middle of town. This violence should not have a place in our society. I think of all those who go and lie down more anxious tonight", she writes on X.
