As early as 2024, National Police Chief Petra Lundh said that the rules for wearing uniforms off duty would be stricter to preserve the uniform's neutrality.

According to the authority, the ban concerns "general principles for how and when the uniform should be used."

The guidance is that uniforms are mainly worn on duty, that is, during operational work, official assignments or in the police's own channels. What this means for different types of events off duty is a consequence of these principles, not the purpose of the decision, says Malin Sahlström, press contact at the authority, to ETC.

The Police Association is against the ban. The parade is about human rights, not party politics, the association believes.
